In 1987, Tony Gwynn secured the National League batting title with a .370 average—his highest in a full season—earning the official Silver Bat awarded to each league’s batting champion. He led the league with 218 hits and struck out only 35 times, showcasing the precision and discipline that defined his approach at the plate.

Silver Bats are awarded exclusively to the top batting average leader in each league, making them far more limited than the Silver Slugger, which is given annually to multiple players by position. Gwynn’s 1987 season marked his third career batting title, part of a stretch that would ultimately total eight, tying him for the most in National League history.

This is the official award bat presented for that achievement—not a factory duplicate or commemorative version. It is also Hobby Fresh, with no record of prior sales or public offering. Its emergence marks the first time this bat has been made available to the collecting world.
